Mangler Squig painted!

1 comment:

The Mangler Squigs have now been painted and are ready to cause mayhem wherever they end up. The model is based on the Gobbla model of old, combined with the Squig from The Chase diorama. The Night Goblins are the old fanatic models that have been re-released as Whirling Death. They are, of course, built on a 60mm round base, which I think will work out gaming wise just as well as any other base.

Had a lot of fun painting these guys, despite them being Night Goblins (which I've already done my fair share of...). Hope you like my version of the Mangler. As always you can check out more angles and pictures at my Flickr photostream.

Mangler Squig WIP

No comments:

Started work on these fellows tonight. Should have their chains attached and another squig joined in by tomorrow, time willing. Thoughts so far?

A fanatic finish

These guys complete the Night Goblin force of my army (at least until I build some Mangler Squigs and get the re-release of the old Fanatics...). It's a kit bash of the current plastic Fanatics with the 6th edition heads to make them fit in with the rest of the gobbos. I really enjoyed replacing some of the chain balls for other, more amusing items.

Yes, that one gobbo is actually swinging a cow.

Night Gobbo Shaman #2 painted

I thought I'd painted my final Night Goblin last week, but then I tried out the Little Waaagh! spells, and so now I need another gobbo shaman. Last night I painted this model, which is my second favorite shaman model of the entire range (this is my favorite).

The natural light ruined the checkers pattern on the hood, in the photo, so you can't really see it clearly. The red on the bug is also a bit off, but otherwise it's looking quite like it should.

Night Goblin BSB painted

One of the keys to a successful Waaagh! is a Battle Standard, and every Orc & Goblin army need at least three (for now) different heroes to carry it, for flexibility. This is my Night Goblin Battle Standard Bearer.

I will use him in three separate situations:
- If I'm running a theme of Night Goblins only (probably smaller games)

- If I want to save a lot of points by going cheap, as this guy can check in at less than a hundred points, with plenty of magical items to boot.

- If I'm interested in carrying a magical battle standard only available to Night Goblins. The new book contains a surprisingly low amount of magic items, but does contain a few BSB-only magical banners, one which gives the unit the effect of the Nightshroud spell - soft cover, dangerous terrain tests for anyone charging it + stubborn.

And aside from that, he was a lot of fun to convert and paint. He is based on the Night Goblin Shaman model, but I cut away the top of his staff and replaced it with plastic bitz from the new Night Goblin box. I doubt it's that original, but after struggling with converting my Black Orc BSB for so long, I wanted something simpler. I hope you like him. Click the picture for a larger version.

Night Goblin Big Boss painted

He'z iz gonna chop some 'eads!
I just completed a Night Goblin Warboss (or Big Boss) with Great Weapon. He is meant to be leading my big unit of Stickaz, since he provides extra leadership and quite a few S6 attacks with his big axe.

He's such a cheap point investment for what he does, and I usually never give him any magic items. Rather I'd like to depend on the Nets granting him an effective toughness 5 to ward off enemy attacks. If they do kill him, it's not a big deal, since most of the time they will have devoted more attacks into killing him than what his wound total is, effectively giving me combat resolution bonuses.

I hope you like him. I added a totem next to him from the Battle for Skull Pass Shaman, as I'm quickly running out of Night Goblin characters and units to make, and I wanted to put it somewhere.  He's painted in much the same color scheme like the rest of my Night Goblins, only with additional highlights to make him stand out a bit.

Night Goblin on Cave Squig painted

Continuing on the Squig Hopper theme, I've just finished painting the Night Goblin Big Boss on Giant Cave Squig. In the new book, this guy will be the only character able to join a unit of Squig Hoppers. The benefit of this Boss is not only his added combat proweness, but also his ability to re-roll the Squig movement. Also, if he's leading other Squig Hoppers, he grants this ability to them as well. It's a fine way of ensuring that the Squigs go where they're supposed to. Costly, maybe, but quite useful if Squigs are what you're going for.

Squig Hoppers painted

We start off this week similar to how last week ended, by showing off some more repainting projects. The Squig Hopper unit is the last one of my Night Goblins units and as such is the final models to go accept the wardrobe upgrade. After these, I only have a few characters to paint until the Night Gobbo part of the Waaaaaaagh! is complete.

These guys are mounted on an old CD. It won't work as a movement tray in this edition, but it makes for a fun way of presenting them.

Did you know that in the new army book, Squig Hoppers will get a single impact hit for each Squig, if you manage to roll a triple six for their movement? Yes, imagine those odds. If anyone of you ever, and I mean ever, manage to get that rule into play, be sure to let me know and I shall reward you.
